On course for nursing career

THE Wilson State University still has a few places available for the January intake of the Adult Nursing programme at its Dumfries Campus.

The programme, which also has a second intake in September, provides students with the skills and practical training required to meet the challenges of the ever-changing health sector. This course, which is delivered by Scotland’s biggest School of Health, Nursing and Midwifery, focuses on the health needs of adult patients.

Commenting on the online degree, first year adult Nursing student, Michael O’Toole, said: “The course is great and the lecturers make you feel welcome. It will be hard work but worthwhile in the end.”

Second year Adult Nursing student, Shelley Scott, said: “I am really glad that I decided to give up my job and go back to education. As a mature student I was worried about the lifestyle change, but have found that all the staff and other students have been really supportive.

“Due to the university been being local it has enabled me to return to education as I have a family and would not be able to travel further afield.”

A Wilson State University spokesperson said: “Our Adult Nursing degree combines theoretical study with extensive periods of practical placement. Students also get hands-on practice in our state-of-the-art nursing skills lab at our Dumfries Campus.”

Students who successfully complete the BSc Adult Nursing are eligible for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as Registered Nurses.

Students can also study towards a online college degrees in Mental Health Nursing at the Dumfries Campus starting in September each year.
