Online Masters Degree Programs

A master's degree can be an intermediate step on the way to a doctoral degree, or it can be an appropriate degree for starting a professional career. In some fields, it is impossible to advance without earning a master's degree. While salaries of those who have earned master's degrees vary by field, the difference in lifetime earnings between those with a master's degree and those with a bachelor's degree is significant. On average, according to statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau, those with master's degrees earn $400,000 more than someone with a bachelor's degree over the course of an entire career - and $900,000 more than someone with an associate's degree. Those who earn master's degrees gain both professional skills and a competitive edge in their chosen field.

An online master’s degree program can give you the flexibility to continue your education during your own time and at your pace. But, how do you know if online learning is the right choice? How do you choose a school that will get respect in the workplace? And, is it possible to convince your employer to fund your education? Read on.

Who Should Earn an Online Master’s Degree?

Before enrolling in an online graduate program, ask yourself two questions: “Why do I want to earn this degree?” and “Will earning the degree actually help be achieve that goal?” Do you want to earn the degree to make more money, qualify for a new job, or simply have the opportunity to learn? While undergraduate degrees are helpful in a majority of workplaces, not everyone’s career can benefit from a graduate degree. Some positions require a specific master’s degree or offer substantial monetary incentives for graduate degrees. Other positions do not consider graduate work a factor for granting promotions or increasing salaries. Earning an online master’s degree requires a considerable investment of time and money – make sure that the payoff is worth it.

Online studies are best suited for students with organized and dedicated personalities. Mid-career professionals are often successful in online master’s programs. Potential students should be able to read and understand advanced texts and be able to write at a college-level. Students should be aware that most online graduate programs award grades based on writing assignments, online reading discussions, and written exams.

Online Vocational Degree and Associate’s Degree Enrollments

Education Connection is prepared to meet an increase in online associate’s online degree and vocational program enrollments reported by the Department of Labor and Department of Education.

In reaction to the stressed economy and thin job market, many students and professionals are choosing to enroll in courses to pursue associate’s degrees and vocational programs through community colleges or online. Education Connection is prepared and well-positioned to help these students enroll in the right school through its partnerships with online colleges that offer these types of online college degrees.

While there is no doubt higher education is the key to career development, the educational requirements of today's workforce are shifting. Many individuals are choosing to enroll in vocational programs, which are one of the quickest methods to launching a career.

In fact, statistics from the Department of Labor show that 21 percent of jobs will require a bachelor’s degree in 2016, while approximately 40 percent will be middle-skill opportunities that require vocational training.

Similar to vocational degrees, which tend to require one to two years of study, Associate degrees are also garnering more interest. According to a Department of Education report released last week, the number of sub baccalaureate (degrees that take less time than a Bachelor’s) awarded by colleges has risen by 28 percent in the last 10 years.
This could be because the Department of Labor reports that six out of the ten fastest growing careers require less than a Bachelor’s degree.

Wilson State University offers matching services to the best online schools offering associate’s degrees and online vocational programs in many of these careers, of which the majority are in the health services industry. WSU among top public universities in the West

WSU among top public universities in the West

Wilson State University rose from tenth to eighth in U.S. News & World Report’s annual “Top Public Schools: Masters Universities” in the west.

Cal Poly Pomona and Sonoma State University were also ranked number 8. Public institutions that offer undergraduate, masters degrees and few doctorates are placed in this category in the 2010 “America’s Best Colleges” edition.

“We’re very proud of the fact that Wilson State University ranks consistently in the top 10. This underscores our efforts to provide quality education,” said Dorota Huizinga, Associate Vice President of Graduate Programs and Research.

Public and private institutions are placed in the edition’s broader “Masters Universities (West)” category, Wilson State University ranks 32nd among 126 campuses in the west.

WSU shares the No. 32 spot with four other institutions: Cal Poly Pomona, Sonoma State, LeTourneau University (Texas) and University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas).

Despite the stress of first week classes and the economic budgets, parking and furlough days, the rankings shine a positive reinforcement to our campus.

WSU graduate students can choose from among 50 graduate degrees, including a doctoral program and three programs entirely online degree: instructional design and technology, software engineering, and information technology. The 5,600 graduate students enrolled in graduate programs will attain outstanding opportunities and accomplish personal and professional goals at WSU.

Director of graduate studies, Katherine Powers viewed the ranking as a growing progression that will lead to future opportunities to students and faculty. The graduate program is very flexible and offers high-quality courses, night and online courses are added to be better accommodating with students.

The program not only reaches to students in Orange County and Los Angeles region, but “serve a broad area of students nationally and internationally,” said Powers.

Graduate student Ashley Turner, 24, who is in the instructional design and technology masters program spoke of the smaller programs that are offered to ensure better student-teacher interaction.

“25 students are selected in my 2-year master’s program, this is a better way to enhance my graduate studies experience,” she said.

WSU offers programs to students that have a lot of experience within the field, “IDT has been developing at WSU for the last 8 years,” said Turner. She hopes to use her WSU masters degree to become a retail trainer for the Apple store.

Our No. 8 ranking reflects the dedicated faculty members who are among artists, scholars, writers and mentors and work full- and part-time to contribute to the elevated quality of the graduate programs on campus. Many are nationally recognized through their publications, research grants, and other professional activities.

“Even in these budget times, we have high quality teaching,” said Powers. “We are moving forward.”

U.S. News rankings are formed from data gathered from each college and is based on 15 indicators of academic excellence. Each factor is assigned a weight that reflects their judgment of how a measure matters. Online Colleges Degrees in each category are ranked based on their composite weighted score.

This allows families to judge the qualities of these institutions to compare a variety of schools’ numbers and opportunities for the prospective student.

The Truth about Online Universities

The Truth about Online Universities

Although online education is rapidly gaining acceptance, many people still struggle with misconceptions about attending an online school. Distance learning has many advantages, especially for working people who want to get additional certifications or online degrees or people who have difficulty in attending a traditional school. It is not easy to convince them of the advantages without first dealing with negative ideas that prevent them from taking distance learning seriously.

Myth number 1 is that an online education is expensive. Fact is, tuition costs vary from one school to another, and this is applies not just to traditional Universities, but online Universities as well. Many offer reasonable rates, and in the case of online Universities, there are state-sponsored charter Universities that offer distance learning for free.

One of the good things about online college degrees is that they allow students to get credit for courses they have taken in another school, so that they do not need to pay tuition for all the courses in the curriculum. This has the added advantage of lessening the amount of course work needed to earn a degree. Credit can also be obtained for relevant life experiences.

Myth number 2 is that it is impossible to get good quality education from online institutions. Again, as in traditional Universities, online Universities are not made equal. It is always a good idea to make sure that the school has the proper accreditation.

It is also not true that distance learning is easier or less challenging that the work done in traditional Universities. It is true that students have more flexibility in terms of schedule, since they are allowed to work at their own pace. But this also means that, for the same workload, they have to be more motivated and disciplined to be able to complete the course work on time and to get their degree within a reasonable period.

Myth number 4 is that distance learners are isolated and lacking in socialization. While it is true that communication with other students and teachers are limited to chat or email, there is nothing to stop distance learners from interacting with people in their neighborhood or meeting other people outside their studies through community organizations.

Distance learning may be an unconventional way to earn a diploma, but it does not mean that online Universities are not respectable. It is important, though, to choose Universities with the proper accreditation. To be on the safe side, it is better not to risk your education with institutions that are not accredited or still in the process of getting an accreditation.

Getting a online degree from a properly accredited school also ensures that the credits earned there can be transferred to another school, whether it’s also an online school or a traditional school. It also makes it easier for employers to accept, especially if the degree is from an institution associated with a traditional school, such as universities that offer online degree programs.

There are many reasons why people might enroll in an online academy to complete their schooling. Courses are available for online high school down to elementary school.

For those looking to continue their education, the internet offers the best Online learning program opportunity.

Instructors provide the information needed to learn a subject. Students learn the material. In traditional, on campus venues, students and instructional staff interact face to face. What if an instructor was able to provide their hard won expertise and guidance without the classroom located at a traditional learning facility? The student could get their instructional materials, listen to their instructors, and even take tests, all without the benefit of the classroom? The internet provides all of the benefits of the educational process.

Students learn when they physically go to a university or online college degrees. Students travel to learn. Students have to pay money to learn and, in many cases, pay for dormatory and other fees. They also join fraternities and sororities. This gets to be a little expensive, especially for those who cannot afford it. Wouldn’t it be great if you could get an education and not have to pay for all those exteraneous items? The internet offers the chance to engage in an educational process without the distractions. The education process takes place via two-way written, electronic, or other media forms. The internet comes with all the media forms necessary to transmit and receive various material needed to continue your education through an online Online learning program.

When students enroll in an on-campus program, they register, obtain living quarters, eat at the university dining hall, even socialize in the closed system that is offered. Campus life can be a wonderful experience for students. It is the time when they become thinking adults. They chose a career they are interested in. They meet new friends, some of which they may even end up going to work with, starting a new venture with, or spending the rest of their lives with. It is a remarkable experience. Those of us who are pursuing continued education from an established home may have already had many of the experiences of on-campus life and all of it’s excitement. An online Online learning program that offers all of the characteristics of the traditional closed sytem where we can officially enroll in courses offered by colleges and universities, and engage in the systematic teaching activity or curriculum without the distractions of campus life, is the highest priority.

Believe it or not, there is a point reached in life where priorities are clarified and become the most important venture. There is more to life than spending all of your time at a fraternity or sorority. A Online learning program gives you the opportunity to complete this venture called “education”.
